A brilliant performance last Saturday from Danesfort’s Seamus Hughes-Kennedy and the 11-year-old mare Cuffesgrange Cavadora (ISH), bred by Eamon Sheehan of Cuffesgrange Sport Horses, saw them take victory in the U25 Grand Prix at Geneva in Switzerland.
Hughes-Kennedy stopped the clock clear in 37.33 seconds to come out on top after an 11-horse jump-off. Niamh McEvoy from Co Tyrone and the Dorothea Wilson-bred Templepatrick Welcome Limerick (ISH) also took sixth place for Ireland.
It was a fitting end to a magnificent year for 21-year-old Seamus who won numerous Grand Prix classes in Spain, Paris, Belgium, Balmoral, Millstreet along with Double Gold at the Young Rider European Championships at Gorla Minore, Italy on the Ennisnag bred ESI Rocky.
Seamus told the Kilkenny People that “I am delighted to win the U25 Grand Prix at such a prestigious show like Geneva. It was a magnificent experience to be part of a show and compete in the same arena as where the Top 10 in the world jumped off on Saturday night and to see the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday.”
The young Kilkenny man finished the year ranked 18th in the U25 Longines World Rankings and 210th in the Longines Senior World Rankings.
