Kilkenny councillor welcomes report on deer culling

Local Fianna Fáil councillor, Michael McCarthy, has welcomed confirmation from Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue, that the culling of deer will take place as recommended by a new report on managing wild deer populations. 

There have been a number of incidents on the R693 Freshford to Johnstown Road and the report includes the considerations of adjusting national laws in relation to the expanding the shooting season for deer culling.

Cllr McCarthy stated road safety is of paramount importance while there are problems with biodiversity and farm management.
