Kilkenny households left in the dark as Storm Jocelyn hits

Homes in Kilkenny have been left without power

Kilkenny households left in the dark...

Thousands of homes, businesses and farms have been left without power today (Wednesday) as Storm Jocelyn hit Co Kilkenny and the rest of the country.

Storm Jocelyn is the second such weather event to hit Ireland in recent days, following the arrival of Storm Isha on Sunday.

Approximately 29,000 customers were without power earlier today as Storm Jocelyn's struck on Tuesday night.

In Kilkenny, just over 91 customers in the Talbots Inch and Ballyragget areas were hit with outages overnight, but it's believed most of the homes impacted have seen their power restored this afternoon.

Counties in the north-west bore the brunt of high winds as the storm tracked eastwards across the country, severely affecting counties: Galway, Mayo and Donegal.

All available ESB Networks resources have been deployed in the most impacted counties with the service provider reporting that some customers could be without power 'for a number of days'.

Commuters or motorists have been advised to stay clear of any fallen electricity wires and to report any damage to the ESB network.
