Tributes pour in for ‘noble’ young man tragically killed in Kilkenny crash

Josh Dineen was killed following a tragic car accident on Saturday

Tributes have poured in for the 20-year-old man who was killed in a car accident in Kilkenny last week.

Josh Dineen from Hugginstown in South Kilkenny, was killed following a single-vehicle accident on the N10 in Foulkstorn, on the outskirts of Kilkenny City.

Since the tragic news broke out, tributes have poured in for Josh, who has been described as a noble young man who was always willing to help others.

Carrickshock GAA paid tribute to their former player, who was a 'pivotal member' of their underage teams.

“We are devastated at the news of the death of Josh Dineen in a tragic car accident early Saturday morning. Josh was a pivotal member of underage Carrickshock teams all the way from Under 8. There were a few tournament wins along the way, winning the Piltown Niall O'Brien minor tournament in 2019 stands out in particular. But the highlights were no doubt the Under 21 title wins of 2019 and 2021, to which Josh and his brother Kyle contributed hugely,” they wrote in tribute.

"Josh’s dad Stephen is a former juvenile coach and  children's officer. Sincere condolences to Stephen, Lorraine, Kyle, Jody and extended family and friends,” they added.

Members of S.N Moin Ruadh also paid tribute to the late 20-year-old.

“Heartfelt sympathies Stephen, Lorraine, Kyle and Jody. We have many fond memories of Josh in SN.Moin Ruadh. Memories on the school hurling, gaelic and soccer teams....playing music and singing for communions and confirmations. Helping out his friends and always so willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. A noble character and student with a charming smile. Ar Dheis De a ainm dilis.”

“It was a privilege to be Josh’s PE teacher. He always helped out with organisation , picking and leading teams in activities. He was a leader and thrived with responsibility . Always on the lookout for bit of fun when he wasn’t leading a group. RIP young man. You enriched our classes,” his former teacher wrote in tribute.

Predeceased by his grandmother Patty Dineen. Deeply regretted by his heartbroken parents Stephen and Lorraine, brothers Kyle and Jody, grandparents Michael Dineen, Bob and Agnes Lanigan, grand auntie Mai, aunts Dee and Jenny, uncles Decky, David and John, relatives as well as cherished friends.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, which took place at approximately 3.25am, to come forward.

Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time have been urged to provide it to gardai.
