Lifetime Achievement Award for Kathleen Leadbetter at Kilkenny Business Awards

A leading light in local business was recognised by her peers for her outstanding contribution over many decades at the Kilkenny Business Awards at the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny.

At the ceremony years 45 years of endeavour, hard work, passion and dedication was recognised when Kathleen Leadbetter of Jerpoint Glass was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

John Hurley, CEO, Kilkenny Chamber, said he was delighted to see her receiving the award which was richly deserved. It was great to see Kathleen on the receiving end of the award as Jerpoint has been involved in creating them for a long number of years.

MC Marty Whelan interviewed Kathleen who was accompanied by her son Rory.

Kathleen expressed her appreciation to the Chamber saying that Jerpoint was delighted to be associated with the awards down through the years, she also thanked all her loyal customers. Rory paid tribute to his mother and said, as a family they were immensely proud of her and the important role she played in raising her family and creating such a successful family business.

Marty wondered how she felt about her own piece being returned to her and surprised her with a special piece of Rosemarie Durr Pottery.

In 1979, Kathleen and the late Keith Leadbetter established Jerpoint Glass, a family-run craft studio, recognised around the globe for its traditional handblown glassware.

Jerpoint Glass has evolved into a creative hub featuring art exhibitions, unique Irish crafts and its renowned glassmaking.

The company has won many awards for its innovative designs and has been involved in producing awards for groups, sporting bodies and corporate commissions.

A trip to the studio in Stoneyford offers an immersive experience of glassblowing in action, crafted at Jerpoint in the 2,000 year old tradition. The studio and the shop are wheelchair accessible and are open daily for visitors and tour groups.

Kathleen is a glass artist, founding member of MADE in Kilkenny Craft Trail and a former Kilkenny Tourism member. She also helped establish Kilkenny’s parent led Project School in 1987.

Kathleen’s contributions have left an indelible mark on Irish craft and Kilkenny’s cultural heritage.

Today, Kathleen works closely with her son, Rory, who carries on the family legacy, ensuring that Jerpoint Glass remains a shining example of Irish craftmanship.
