Farm buildings
The Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme for 2025 is now open.
Announcing the scheme, Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD said there is a budget of €1.5 million for this year’s applications.
“This scheme received a prestigious Europa Nostra heritage award in 2024, and I am happy to reaffirm this Government’s commitment to supporting conservation efforts,” the minister said.
The scheme allows farmers to renovate and repurpose traditional farm buildings, thereby preserving our history for future generations, Minister Heydon added.
Funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the scheme is run in partnership with the Heritage Council.
It encourages investment by farmers in the conservation of traditional farm buildings and structures of significant heritage value that contribute to our rural landscape, such as historic yard surfaces, buildings, gates and gate pillars that form part of the working farm.
Many of the supported structures also provide roosting sites for bats and nesting sites for birds.
The scheme is open for applications until Monday, March 10. A grant will cover up to 75% of the cost of works, with a maximum available grant of €30,000.
