Eleven couples of all ages and abilities will take to the stage in the Springhill Court Hotel this Saturday, April 16, in one of the biggest events in the St Patrick's Centre calendar.
The group will demonstrate what they have learned in the past few months during the course of what promises to be a very entertaining evening. The whole show is being choreographed by Michelle Wise (Wise Dance Studios). Michelle is a former employee of St Patrick's, so this event will be very close to her heart.
Staff within the centre came up with the idea of the Strictly Come Dancing night, and immediately began recruiting dancers to join the show. Several staff members, and people closely affiliated to the centre agreed to take part in order to raise funds for thebenefit of residents. Practice began in November 2015 with the couples meeting approximately once a week to learn the routines.
The frequency of the training has increased dramatically in recent weeks. Two group dances will open the show, followed by eleven couples' dances. Dances include the Quickstep, Tango, Qaltz, Latin and many more.
Couples dancing on the night will include: Laura Bolger and Decky Casey, Kevin Canning and Aisling McNally, Yinka Banks and Gary McDonald, Angie Pierce and Ian Coogan, Adrienne Jackson and Sean McHugh, ger Galvin and Valerie Reddy, Billy reddu and Nicola Whitty, Shane Kenny and Ann Stapleton, Cherrelle Cordon & Greg Blanchfield, John Coyne and Ann Marie Cummins, Aine Dreelan and Paul Molloy.
The MC on the night will be celebrity chef Edward Hayden. The judges on the night will include Tony Mullins (horse trainer), Maedbh Cantwell (owner of Serendipity Boutique, Kilkenny), Aidan O’ Dwyer (owner of Kapelli, Kilkenny), and Sasha Connolly (Miss Kilkenny). There will be raffles and spot prizes on the night for all attendees. The voting system will be similar to that of Strictly Come Dancing on BBC. The judges will make up 50% of the vote, whilst the audience will make up the other 50% of the vote).
There have been several fundraisers in recent weeks- in order for dancers to raise sponsorship for the event. These have ranged from cabaret karaoke nights, bake sales to table quizzes - and many more. Dancers are continuing to raise money for the event, so please keep an eye out for other fundraisers in the upcoming weeks.
To buy tickets for the event, contact any of the committee members in St Patrick's on (056-7722170). All proceeds for this event are going to a very worthy cause, so all support will be very welcome. Tickets are priced at 25 euro for the show.
