Cyclists all set for cycle on anniversary year

This June bank holiday weekend sees the return of the annual Mary Slattery Charity Cycle in aid of Chernobyl Children International.

Saturday morning, June 4, cyclists will gather at The Parade where the journey begins.

Kilkenny Outreach Group is very excited about this year’s cycle and hoping to make it even bigger this year marking the 30th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster. The group will follow the success of last year’s route Kilkenny to Dungarvan and return to Kilkenny. It is great to havemany regular cyclists back this year and we are welcoming the new cyclists who have come on board but rest assured there is still time to sign up!

All ages and all fitness levels are welcome. The Mary Slattery Memorial cycle is very well run throughout with the hard work of Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group. Great care taken to assure not only cyclists are safe and sound but also have great entertainment throughout the weekend.

It has been proven year after year. Host mammy Eileen Morrissey and her amazing team provide refreshments during all food stops and you are guaranteed to be well looked after. Overnight accommodation including dinner and breakfast in Dungarvan is provided along with your cycling jersey. Lots of fun on the night and prizes organised by the fabulous Cindy Denieffe last year and was an absolute success will again happen this year. Cyclists can also avail of a masseuse at the end of both days.

The cycle proceeds are vital as the Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group depends on this money to welcome Belarusian children to Kilkenny this year for their summer rest and recuperation. The rest and recuperation lasts four weeks, and is said to extend each child’s life by an estimated two years, and reduces their contamination levels by 30% to 50%.

A non-refundable registration fee of €65 is required. The sponsorship goal of €300 is required. See Facebook for more information, email t or call us on 0872805059.
