Lunch time temperatures in Kilkenny have broken 27 degrees centigrade.
That makes it the hottest day of the year so far, breaking yesterday's record by two degrees.
And the forecast is to continue in to the early twenties for the remainder of the week, as the country basks in the glorious sunshine.
According to KilkennyWeather.com, there is a small chance that the present heat could trigger thunder showers.
The hottest day ever in Ireland was recorded at Kilkenny Castle in 1887 - 33.3 degrees centigrade.
