Richie Hogan, TJ Reid and Jackie Tyrell will be among over a dozen Kilkenny All-Star hurlers to participate in the All-Star Family Walk in aid of the Samaritans on Saturday.
The Samaritans provide support to anyone experiencing emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide.
Demand for the services in the Kilkenny/Carlow area continues to rise and in order to meet the needs of the community, the local branch is seeking to extend its existing premises on Dean Street, Kilkenny.
To help raise funds for this vital project, the Samaritans are hosting the Kilkenny All-Stars Family Walk, on Saturday, registration at 11am
The walk is from the HSE Facility, Lacken, Carlow Road, Kilkenny at 11.30am. It will follow the Nore route from the Ring Road via the Canal Walk and back by Maudlin Street – approximately 4km.
Brian Cody will kick-off the event and over a dozen Kilkenny All-stars hurlers have been invited to participate in the walk on the day.
“The Samaritans is an incredibly worthy cause. I’m delighted to kick-off this walk. It’s a great opportunity to get your friends and family involved, or take part on your own and raise vital funds for a great cause,” Brian Cody said.
The Soulful Spirit Choir will provide the entertainment. GoodFellas and Avonmore milk will provide pizza and Mooju milk to all those who take part in the event.
Children & adults are encouraged to wear their local county or club jersey on the day.
“Unfortunately demand for the services of the Samaritans continues to rise in the Kilkenny/Carlow area. Increasing the size of our offices in Dean Street in Kilkenny will ensure we can provide vital support and services for those most in need in our community. We would really appreciate people’s support on the day,” Raymond Lannen , Director Kilkenny/Carlow Branch of the Samaritans said.
All donations are welcome with a target of €10 per family being kindly requested. All monies raised on the day will go directly towards extending the Samaritans current premises in Kilkenny.
