County Hall.
Local councillors have this evening voted unanimously against proposed changes to the city and county development plans, which would have allowed for increased residential development at the Mount Juliet Estate in Thomastown, and a rezoning of land at St Joseph’s Road, the Butts so that more houses can be built there.
Both proposed changes had many residents concerned over the impact they might have had. Local councillors have been meeting the council executive as well as stakeholders in recent weeks to discuss the matter.
At today’s meeting, which began at 3pm and went on until 7pm, the proposals were put to a vote. Despite heated exhanges and disagreements, and amid some calls for deferrals, both proposals were ultimately defeated unanimously by the 23 elected members present.
