There were scenes of delight in Kilmoganny as the local post office re-opened in its original premises last Thursday morning.
The building was destroyed by a fire in the summer of 2013, and postmistress Jackie Keneally, who is the third generation of her family to run the post office, had to operate the service from a temporary location as efforts were made to rehabilitate the gutted building.
Fr Nicholas Flavin blessed the premises. He commended everyone involved in bringing it back into use, and Jackie for having the courage to re-open given the challenges faced by post offices.
“The post office is certainly very much the life of the village. So, we thank her for her persistence, and also to Ann who works with her. We wish them many years of success.”
Local TD Bobby Aylward encouraged people to make use of the service.
“It's only with the support of the public, and the surrounding districts, that you can continue and flourish and succeed,” he said.
“So, I would appeal to everyone to ensure you give this 100%. To Jackie, there goes great credit, and I wish her well.”
