Car accident near Kilkenny school left young students in 'huge distress'

Young pupils of a school in north Kilkenny were in 'huge distress' for days after they came upon the scene of a road traffic accident involving a member of their school’s staff recently.

The victim of the accident was injured, and the vehicle was written off in the incident, which took place near the school on November 21. Local councillor Maurice Shortall has warned that stretches of road in the area can be extremely treacherous in cold weather.

“Many of the school children came upon the accident and this caused huge distress for days afterwards,” he said.

Almost 100 pupils attend the school, a number of whom have special educational needs. There are around a dozen members of staff, and approximately 50 cars make between four to six journeys there daily.

“These stark statistics will hopefully resonate in a rational response to ensure safety is number one at all times,” said Cllr Shortall.
