Kathleen Funchion, T.D. is bitterly disappointed to hear the speculation around Leinster House which is predicting that the Fine Gael Minister for Housing, Simon Coveney, will support and recommend Waterford's move to acquire 20,000 acres of South Kilkenny.
Kathleen says, "the heritage and identity of our people in South Kilkenny must be defended, protected and respected. Thousands have made their views known in the submissions prepared at the beginning of this year. It would be unthinkable if these were now to be ignored. They must, instead, be honoured."
Kathleen Funchion also reminded that we do not have the final report yet.
"It is certainly grossly unfair to the people of Kilkenny to have people putting out leaks that are causing them concern and worry. The community, parish and County in which they live and with which they identify is critically important to them."
When one considers all the critical issues facing this Government and its supporters, it is hard to understand why they can't simply respect the views of the people instead of continuing to leave this Border Change on the agenda.Co-operation between the Local Authorities is the way forward and this is not achieved by looking to change boundaries.
Imagine if your neighbor suggested working with you and began by acquiring a portion of your garden!! It simply would not work. It is in the hands of the Government so let them respect the will of the people.
It is ironic that at a time when this same Government wants the views of the people in the Six Counties honored in regard to Brexit, they would ignore the views of the people of Kilkenny.
