Work on new development in the western environs of Kilkenny City is due to begin before the end of this year, Kilkenny County Council has said.
Planning permission and the compulsory purchase of lands is already in place, and significant residential development is to take place in the coming years.
The council intends to immediately begin preparing the necessary tender documentation for construction, with a view to commencing works before year-end.
The project will also facilitate the construction of two new schools in the area — Kilkenny City Vocational School and Coláiste Pobal Osra. Both are included in the Department of Education 2018 construction programme.
“The council is delighted with the announcement of funding for infrastructure in the western environs which will help early commencement of construction of much needed housing for Kilkenny,” said council chairman Matt Doran.
