A thief caught on camera robbing an elderly woman
Thieves take advantage of older people at this time of year as they know they may be distracted.
So avoid leaving Christmas shopping unattended in the car for long periods and take care of your handbags, wallets and mobile phones.
This CCTV from a supermarket shows a man rifling through the victim's handbag for almost 10 seconds, while the woman is distracted by an accomplice.
This can also happen in a clothes shop when you are trying on a garment and leave a bag or coat unattended, while moving to a mirror or going quickly to get another size garment.
