Pensioner burgled in his bedroom in Borris

An elderly gentleman was subjected to a terrifying ordeal last night when raiders entered his home demanding cash.

The 69-year-old was in his bed and was awoken by a man shining a light in his face.

"The man was claiming to be from the ESB and said that he was looking for money for an unpaid bill. We believe that the raider was not acting alone as the victim heard other voices. The raider left with a small quantity of cash," said a garda spokesperson.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Woodsland Park area of Borris at approximately 8pm on Sunday evening to contact them in confidence.
