Well known local dentist, Dr Yvonne Finlay, of Friary Court Dental, has added a new string to her professional bow.
Having a keen interest in the area of facial aesthetics, Yvonne furthered her education and training at the renowned Derma Medical in the College of General Practitioners, London.
To the uninitiated, facial aesthetics encompasses anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler treatments. Yvonne is delighted to now offer both of these treatments, and is fully insured by Hamilton Fraser Cosmetic Insurance.
According to Yvonne anti-wrinkle injections can help soften and smooth lines, resulting in a fresher appearance.
“ These products relax the muscles beneath the skin which prevents creasing,” she said.
“With younger clients the focus is largely on prevention. The treatment is mostly used in the upper face, the commonly treated areas are the forehead, the frown, and the laughter lines,” explained Yvonne who added that the treatment is ‘relatively painless, takes up to two weeks to take effect, and lasts three to four months’.
Dermal filler treatment
These products are also used in the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) and according to Yvonne the treatment has excellent results that can last six months and more.
Dermal filler treatment is also available and is used more in the mid and lower face, to soften lines notably nose-to-mouth (naso-labial) lines and corners of the mouth (marionettes).
Dermal fillers can also lift and volumise the cheeks and enhance or volumise the lips. Again, treatment is relatively painfree and lasts six to 12 months depending on the area treated.
Yvonne places huge emphasis on the ‘less is more’ approach, starting with subtle amounts and building from there if needs be.
“The area of nonsurgical facial aesthetics is rapidly growing,” she said. “Smoothing wrinkles can give a real psychological boost and feel good factor.”
At present in Ireland, only doctors and dentists can provide anti-wrinkle injections which placed Yvonne in an ideal position to branch into this field. She has worked for the past 20 years as a general dentist.
