PICTURE Snowdrift encroaches on "7ft wall" in Kilkenny as Storm Emma clean-up begins

Siobhan's daughter Katie, 14, looks down at the snow drift

The blizzard has passed in Kilkenny but the Status Red snow and ice warning remains in effect until 6pm this evening.

A major clean-up operation is now underway as Kilkenny County Council begin clearing the roads. Snowdrift appears to have been the real problem across the county.

A snowdrift is a bank of deep snow heaped up by the wind.

Siobhán Fahey sent us the pictures from Grangehill, Clara and said the snowdrift had encroached "a 7ft wall" right at her gate.

According to www.kilkennyweather.com, "snow is mostly light but continuous...drifting is the problem".
