UPDATED: Status Orange snow and ice warning in effect for Kilkenny until Saturday evening

The warning was issued at 6am this morning

Kilkenny has seen a lot of snowdrift

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange snow-ice warning for Munster, Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan.

The forecaster added: "Some snow this morning, widespread treacherous surfaces due to ice and lying snow. Rain will begin to spread from the south today and this will start the melting process with potential flooding. Updates will follow."

However the Status Orange - which is for weather conditions which have the capacity to impact significantly on people in the affected areas - came into effect from 4pm today and will expire at 9am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
