Kilkenny County Council spent over €560,000 on Traveller accommodation last year, new figures have revealed.

Fianna Fáil’s Fiona O’Loughlin asked the Minister for Housing for details on the amount of funding allocated and drawn down by all local authorities for Traveller accommodation in 2017.

Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Damien English, said housing authorities have statutory responsibility for the assessment of the accommodation needs of Travellers.

The Minister provided details of the allocation for Traveller Accommodation Programmes versus drawdown by county in 2017. It revealed that in Kilkenny, out of an allocation of €582,162 for 2017, there was €563,040 of this funding spent.
