Internationally renowned classical musicians to perform for Gina in Kilkenny

Remembering Regina

Violinist, Eva Thoransdottir plays in the Remembering Regina concert which will be held in the Watergate on Saturday night

A host of internationally recognised stars of the classical music world are appearing in “Remembering Regina”, a concert to honour the late Regina O’Leary on Saturday (St Patrick's Day) in the Watergate Theatre.

The concert will also launch “Shine Bright - The Regina O’Leary Foundation” which will support young musicians from Kilkenny and create opportunities for the county’s wonderful musical talent.

There are many hugely successful soloists and chamber musicians joining Regina’s family and past pupils on stage on March 17th. These include renowned Irish pianist, Fiachra Garvey, who knew Regina for many years and has made past performances on the Watergate stage with Regina’s son, David. Also performing is Icelandic violinist Eva Thoransdottir who has a busy and varied career as a soloist and chamber musician. Two further in demand musicians performing will be Lucy and Peggy Nolan who make up two thirds of the Eblana Trio. The trio enjoy a busy schedule that sees them playing in major concert halls and festivals throughout the UK and further afield.

There are a number of other high profile, influential musicians appearing in the concert including Malachy Robinson (Principal Double Bass Irish Chamber Orchestra) and Billy Cole (Principal Double Bass Ulster Orchestra). Malachy and Billy will be appearing alongside double bassists from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Regina’s son and future son-in-law, Mark O’Leary and Benn Cunningham in an exciting arrangement of Westside Story for double bass quartet. Also performing are violist and Musici Ireland founder Beth McNinch, Irish cellist Aoife Dennedy and percussionists Maeve O’Hara and Jeremy Hickey.

Another highlight of the concert will come in the form of West End singing sensation, Sarah O'Connor. Sarah has appeared in lead roles in west end productions of Les Miserables, Mammia Mia, The Commitments and Evita.

Regina’s family have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and willingness of these world class musicians to perform for free in this special concert. The standard of all the musicians is extremely high and between them they’ve performed all over the world in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, The Royal Albert Hall in London and Sydney Opera House.  Tickets are available from the Watergate Theatre box office on 0567761674 and via their website. All proceeds go to “Shine Bright - The Regina O’Leary Foundation”. “Rembering Regina” 7pm March 17th Wategate Theatre
