CASTLECOMER

Cllr Maurice Shortall says the junction is a problem for people wishing to avail of the Post Office services via Chatsworth Street

A north Kilkenny councillor has said that one collision has occurred and more will follow unless a proper, controlled pedestrian crossing is put in place at the junction at the Square in Castlecomer.

Cllr Maurice Shortall raised the issue at the recent July meeting of the Castlecomer Municipal District. He said the junction is a problem for people wishing to avail of the Post Office services via Chatsworth Street.

"With traffic converging from three sides there is an urgent requirement to provide safe passage for all especially pensioners who use out Post Office on a regular basis," Cllr Shortall told the Kilkenny People.

"Quite a number park on the lower Square and walk to access the Bank, Eurospar and the Post Office. I am suggesting that the new crossing could be synchronised with the crossing already on Kilkenny Street."
