Centenarian Katie Looby is a bright lady who on reaching her milestone 100th birthday is happy to share some of her wisdom.
Born in Garylawn, Crosspatrick Katie was devoted to her parents and siblings and then to her beloved husband, Paddy, with whom she shared 53 years of happy marriage.
For the past seven years she has been a resident at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Crosspatrick and she is obviously doted on there by the staff.
It is easy to see why - Katie is a real lady, polite and refined with a sharp recollect and a superb ability to recall a story, many of which date back a few decades.
When asked the secret to a long and happy life she replies that the most important thing is to stay relaxed.
“It is important to take life easy and not to worry. You need to stay relaxed and then you can enjoy life. I very much enjoyed my dancing days and have had a healthy life.
“You also have to be happy with what you have and not be wishing for more,” she added.
Bright and bubbly, it is clear that Katie heeds her own advice.
“I was very much looking forward to reaching 100 and thank God I reached it. I am very well looked after here at the nursing home and people are so kind and I have made some good friends,” she added.
Katie recently celebrated her birthday with family and friends at a special celebration at the nursing home.
