Crackdown: Gardaí in Kilkenny have launched a major bank holiday road safety operation

A significant Garda presence is in place on roads in Kilkenny this evening as the August Bank Holiday weekend begins.

The crackdown involves a large number of Gardaí manning several checkpoints across the Ring Road and in the city centre, testing motorists for drug and drink driving. A number of arrests have already been made as part of the operation.

The Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoints see drivers tested for the presence of alcohol and drugs. Motorists are asked to take extra caution on the roads this Bank Holiday weekend.
