Kilkenny distillery's intoxicating win with Ballykeefe Poitin

Great taste of Kilkenny poitin recognised

Spirit in Ballykeefe

Ballykeefe Poiti n produced in rural Kilkenny on a sustainable family farm distillery

Ballykeefe Distillery has received another accolade, this time from The Irish Whiskey Masters.
The Irish Whiskey Masters, as part of the Global Spirits Masters, which is the largest global Irish Whiskey competition, rewards the finest brands on the world stage.
Through a series of blind tastings and recognition of excellence in category, age and design and packaging, a panel of leading spirits and on-trade specialists determine the Irish Whiskey Masters of 2018.
Ballykeefe Distillery in the category of Poitín has achieved the highest award, a MASTER medal, a fantastic result for Kilkenny’s first new make spirit in over 200 years.
Poitín has been making a renaissance in recent years. Made from Ballykeefe’s own malted barley in a traditional copper pot still, Ballykeefe Poitín is a premium super smooth spirit.
It’s crafted with care that makes it a drink worthy of a fine cocktail or served with ginger ale and a slice of orange, one of the ‘Signature Ballykeefe Serves’ range.
“I did not think it was possible to win anything higher than gold but Ballykeefe Poitin has done it,” Morgan Ging, MD and owner of Ballykeefe.
“This award is reserved for very rare and aged spirits, so to win it with our new age Poitin in our first year of production is amazing.
Morgan and the team are on the right track for a world class super premium Whiskey when the same spirit completes its three-year aging process in bourbon oak casks.
He paid tribute to Barrison Engineering in Italy who produced the custom-made copper stills .
Ballykeefe Distillery is the first Whiskey distillery in Kilkenny for over 200 years and revives an Irish tradition of family farm distilleries lost for centuries.
Earlier this year, Ballykeefe won an impressive selection of medals earlier this year at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, considered the Oscars of the spirits industry.
