Events include talks, workshops and a community walking initiative

With everything from walking, GIY, dementia care, a tea-towel printing workshop, and mindfulness for kids, there’s something for everyone

Kilkenny County Library Service is now rolling out its second programme of Healthy Ireland events, including talks, workshops and a community walking initiative.

With everything from walking, GIY, dementia care, a tea-towel printing workshop, and mindfulness for kids, there’s something for everyone. The library service has partnered with Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership to facilitate a walking programme taking place in Ferrybank, Graignamanagh and Castlecomer.

For Savour Kilkenny, there will be a series of talks, including with Catriona Kelly of GIY, who will discuss the mental and physical benefits associated with planting.

“This programme aims to establish the library as a valuable source and support for communities for health information,” says Healthy Ireland coordinator Karyn Deegan.

In addition to the events, a range of new books have been added to the Healthy Ireland at your Library book collections which can be found in each branch library across the county. With a focus on children and teens, these titles are a fantastic addition to the collections.

Among them is a series of books by Louise Shangaher entitled 'Mindfully Me', which focuses on mindfulness for children and we look forward to welcoming Louise to facilitate some workshops for us in the New Year. Pop into your local branch to browse through the latest titles added to the Healthy Ireland at Your Library collections or check out the online catalogue www.kilkennylibrary.ie.

There is also a vast selection of eBooks and eAudio books, dedicated to health and wellbeing, accessible 24/7 by simply downloading the Borrowbox app.

There are some excellent health related magazines for you to get some health recipes or exercise tips to keep you motivated! To access these magazines, download the RB digital app today.

Healthy Ireland at Your Library is financed by the Department of Health, and the Department of Community and Rural Development.

The programme runs until February 2019, and events will take place across all our branches so pick up a brochure at your local library. To keep up to date visit the library Facebook page or www.kilkennylibrary.ie.
