Kilkenny Yulefest: Stormtroopers turn city into a Winter wonderland

Yulefest Kilkenny is underway and the Marble City has been transformed into a magical Winter wonderland.
This weekend Stormtroopers will be roaming the city’s streets as part of the month-long festive festival.
The official 501st Legion Garrison will be costumed for this very special event. The 501st Ireland Garrison is an all-volunteer organisation who seek to promote interest in Star Wars through attending community events, costumed charity.
There will be a photo opportunity with the Stormtroopers on Saturday at the Medieval Mile Museum from 11am, MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre from noon and at James Stephens Army Barracks event from 2 to 4.30pm.
Star Wars fans can see the Stormtroopers again on Sunday at Kilkenny Castle Santa Run from 11am to 1pm and later at MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre from 3pm.
Silent Night – Christmas Day 1914:

Forming part of Yulefest Kilkenny this special one -hour tour at the James Stephens Army Barracks is especially tailored for families and will take place this Saturday and Sunday.
Promising to be a very memorable event, the tour will begin with a visit to the onsite museum where stories of events of Christmas past will be re-told.
Visitors will then make their way through a festive decorated courtyard to enter the detention centre where the history of the detention cells will be recounted.
There’s an opportunity to meet friendly Irish Wolfhound Fionn; mascot for the 3rd Infantry Battalion.
The tour will end with ‘Silent Night – Christmas Day 1914’ – a re-enactment of the truce which took place during the First World War when soldiers from both sides laid down their weapons and met in No Man’s Land to share a moment of peaceful brotherhood at Christmas.

Christmas market
The Yulefest Kilkenny Christmas Market will run until December 23 from 11am to 6pm daily.
The courtyard in O’Sullivan’s Wine Centre on John Street has been transformed into a Christmas Winter Wonderland Christmas Market.
With over 14 stalls and lots of tempting aromas in the air and Christmas music in the background you can browse wonderful crafts and nibble on freshly made treats as you go.
Why not get some treats at the market and then soak up the festive atmosphere as you wander through the city’s merry medieval streets.
