Graignamanagh hit again

Water runs through Mick Doyle's lane on to Main Street, Graignamanagh, Kilkenny as Duiske River floods again

Despite numerous assurances from successive governments, Graignamanagh is once again flooded.

The Duiske River has burst its banks and the Main Street has been closed.

The fire service are furiously pumping water at Doran's Super Valu and Gardai are diverting traffic.

And the banks of the River Barrow are at a dangerously high level, right up to the footpath and there are fears that it will burst its banks tonight and flood on to the Quay.

Sand bags have been placed at all back and front doors while some premises have their own more sophisticated defences in place.

Local man, David Hughes is livid that despite different flood relief schemes being roll out, nothing has happened.

"We have been forgotten about," he claimed.
