Yulefest Kilkenny has plenty of festive fun on offer this week

Yulefest Kilkenny is still brimming with festive events right throughout the festive season. Here’s just a selection of what’s in store this week and you can find many more events on their website, see yulefestkilkenny.ie/events to plan a day out with friends, family or some time out for yourself!

Sensory Sensitive Quiet Time: Yulefest Kilkenny supported by Creative Ireland, is offering Sensory Sensitive Quiet Time events at the Christmas festival this year. For some families and children bright lights and loud music may cause stress and anxiety. So this year several event venues and experiences are participating in a sensory sensitive quiet hour. During this hour the lights and music will be reduced, allowing children and their families to experience the atmosphere of Christmas in Kilkenny at a pace and in an environment that is comfortable for them to enjoy. Venues include Butler House Garden, Kilkenny Castle, Medieval Mile Museum, Kilkenny on Ice and the Vintage Carousel. If you know a friend or family who would benefit from this experience please let them know about this inclusion to the festival. Check the website for more details, times and participating venues. yulefestkilkenny.ie/ events

The Mayor’s Annual Christmas Concert: A festive landmark in the annual Kilkenny Christmas calendar is the Mayor’s Concert.
A show for all ages, it offers the opportunity to enjoy the best of our local talent and rising stars. As always, proceeds go to a worthy cause and this year Amber Women’s Refuge Centre in Kilkenny will benefit from the funds raised.

Edward Hayden will get the party started and you can expect a festive and entertaining night with guest performers including St Fiacre’s National School in Skeoughvosteen. Don’t miss Noah Synder from Kilkenny who last March performed at the Peace Proms Concert with the Cross – Border Orchestra of Ireland. Jesters Stage Academy will perform some surprise festive melodies and The Kilkenny Choir will include songs from their wide-ranging repertoire of musical works. Also Moloney’s Men who formed for a one-off gig in Kilkenny’s twin City of Formigine in Italy earlier this year are back together at the request of the Mayor for his Christmas Concert. With all these combined talents you can expect a great Kilkenny night out. Taking place at the Watergate Theatre on Friday 21st December at 8pm. Tickets adults €10/ children U16 €5 with proceeds to Amber Women’s Refuge Centre, Kilkenny. Tickets available from yulefestkilkenny.ie/events

Seniors Gone Crackers! Christmas Show, Thomastown: The Thomastown Parish Senior Citizens’ Association are putting on a Christmas show ‘Seniors gone Crackers’. The group are working with theatre maker/writer Gillian Grattan to produce the show where a talented bunch of seniors will perform sketches that they have written themselves and sing some seasonal tunes to get you into the Christmas spirit. Taking place on December at Thomastown Concert Hall, Marshes Street, Thomastown at 8pm, tickets are €5 and can be purchased from O’Keeffe’s and the Senior Citizen Shop. All proceeds go to Thomastown Parish Senior Citizens.

Annual Christmas Morning Fun Run: Tuck into a fun run on Christmas morning instead of a selection box! The annual Christmas Morning Fun Run organised by Kilkenny City Harriers departs from Kilkenny Castle gates at The Parade on 25th December at 11am. No registration necessary, just turn up and run, jog or walk the streets of Kilkenny. Donations welcome, all proceeds this year go to the ‘John Needs Pembro’ fundraising campaign.

Several Yulefest Kilkenny events continue until January 6, including the Vintage Carousel and Kilkenny On Ice, check the festival website for further details at yulefestkilkenny.ie/events
