A Kilkenny woman who scooped a six-figure sum when her lottery numbers came up on New Year's Day intends to pay off the mortgage.

The Kilkenny winner spoke of her delight at the prospect of finally clearing her mortgage after landing a cool €100,000 on the National Lottery Millionaire Raffle. Four National Lottery players from Kilkenny, Offaly, Kerry and Cork collected their cheques totalling €1,375,000 at National Lottery HQ yesterday.

The Kilkenny woman bought her lucky ticket at the Supervalu in Main Street, Ballyragget, and her ticket number was 164,096.

“I am thrilled with the win – it really is only hitting me now!" said the thrilled player, who wishes to remain anonymous.

"On New Year’s Day I said I was taking a day off cooking so my husband went to collect a take-away. While he was gone I checked our raffle numbers online, and I was stunned. I stayed still double and triple checking until my husband returned and I got him to check.

"We are going to use this to pay off the last chunk of our mortgage which will be a huge benefit to us. The rest, we are just going to relax for a while and think of how we will spend it.”
