Altan to perform at Tradfest KIlkenny

Altan are coming back as a headline act for Tradfest Kilkenny 2019.
“Kilkenny audiences are familiar with Altan’s dynamic and melodic sound,” said Malcolm Noonan, chairman of Kilkenny Tradfest. “We’re absolutely thrilled to have secured them to play our flagship concert in the majesty of St Canice’s Cathedral.
“Over many decades Altan have been global ambassadors for Irish music,” he added. “This promises to be one of the highlights of the music calendar year in a city that is now renowned as a great cultural destination.”
No Irish traditional band in the last dozen years has had a wider impact on audiences and music lovers throughout the world than Altan - Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (fiddle), Ciarán Curran (bouzouki), Dáithí Sproule (guitar), Mark Kelly (guitar) and Mark Tournish (accordion).
Join them in St Canice’s Cathedral on March 15 for a gig that promises all that Irish traditional music has to offer, from touching old Irish songs all the way to hard hitting reels and jigs.
Beauty of music
With their exquisitely produced award-winning recordings, ranging dynamically from the most sensitive and touching old Irish songs all the way to hard hitting reels and jigs, and with their heartwarming, dynamic live performances, Altan have moved audiences from Donegal to Tokyo to Seattle.
Throughout, there has been the unwavering commitment of the band to bringing the beauty of traditional music, particularly that of the Donegal fiddlers and singers, to contemporary audiences in a way that brings out all its qualities and destroys none.
Kilkenny Tradfest has partnered with the Watergate Theatre who are providing box office services for the 2019 festival.
Tickets are on sale at www.kilkennytradfest.com or from the box office at the Watergate, tel 056-7761674.
