The principal of Coláiste Mhuire in Johnstown has said that all the supports needed will be put in place to help a Leaving Cert student who was reportedly attacked while out walking near her home in Co Kilkenny yesterday.
Martin Gleeson said that he wished the teenager a speedy recovery and that the school community will rally around to support her over the coming weeks and months.
“I wish her a speedy recovery from this terrifying ordeal. There is a strong school community and along with her family and friends we will rally around her over the coming weeks and months and provide her with any support she needs,” he said.
The Kilkenny principal urged people to ‘be vigilant and to watch out for each other’.
“We need to be very alert and aware and to make sure people know where we are,” he said.
Gardaí are continuing their investigations and the scene, just off the main R639 that links Johnstown to Cullohill, remains cordoned off.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on (056) 7775000.
