Big chill on the way as Artic weather set to bite Kilkenny

Local weather man says 'There is a threat of sleet and snow moving up from the south in the middle of next week'

Cold spell may bring snow

Met Eireann has advised that it will be very cold into early next week, as an Arctic airmass sets in, bringing sharp to severe frosts, and ice or black ice on roads and footpaths. A yellow weather warning for County Kilkenny comes into effect from tomorrow December 8 until December 12.

“Some showers of hail, sleet, and snow will occur. There is potential for freezing fog too, especially this weekend. Further updates to the advisory and warnings are expected in the coming days,” Met Eireann said.

Meanwhile local Kilkenny weatherman Niall Dollard of kilkennyweather.com predicts a big chill: “Our coldest so far this year was -4.0C on January 17, and we could well see lower than that Friday morning and over the weekend.

"So hard frosts ahead, but dry and some nice sunshine. There is a threat of sleet and snow moving up from the south in the middle of next week but there is a lot of uncertainty on that yet.”
