Severe frost and ice on the way according to both local weather watcher and Met Éireann
Niall Dollard of www.kilkennyweather.com is our go-to source for local weather updates. So what is the local weather guru predicting for the latter part of this week?
Niall says that it's “Staying cold and dry for most of the week and then changing to wet/mild at the weekend.”
He continues, “Slight frost first thing Wednesday will be followed by a bright day but still cold. A hard frost on Thursday morning will be followed by a sunny day. More frost Friday and there will be some sunshine.
“First signs of change on Saturday as winds back to the south west. Still cold and cloudy for most of the day. The winds will pick up overnight bringing rain. Sunshine and showers (some heavy) for Sunday but it will be a lot milder. Unsettled mild conditions next week.”
Met Éireann has also issued an Orange Weather Warning. They have issued a Status Orange - Low Temperature/Ice warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Galway, Leitrim and Roscommon.
They have warned that it will be “Extremely cold on Wednesday night with widespread temperatures below -5 degrees leading to severe frost and ice.”
The warning is valid from 18:00 Wednesday 14/12/2022 to 12:00 Thursday 15/12/2022
So the advice from both local and national weather services is to wrap up warm, drive slowly and carefully, and please check in on elderly neighbours who might need assistance.
