Thomastown based artist Susie Lambe
Susie Lambe - a performer, writer and singer based in Thomastown in Kilkenny is about to release her EP of original songs and poems, Love Land.
Susie is well known to local audiences and has acted in local productions including The Big Chapel, Kilkenny Arts Festival and also participated in the site specific work, The Consuming Project by Ita Morrissey and has been involved in productions well as all over Ireland. She is also known to many as a voice on the poetry phone and as a performance facilitator with many groups including KCAT and institutions in Waterford and Carlow.
The talented artist has sung for many years but took a break when she was pregnant with her daughter because her bump was so big she couldn't hold her guitar! She was in the process of recording a collection of songs but put it on hold when she became pregnant.
“I had always intended to get back to my original songs but it just took me longer than I expected. I kept singing though, any opportunity I had. I am a fluent Irish speaker and sing in Irish too, mostly songs taught to me by my father and by Sean Nos singers in Connemara when I lived there between 2003 and 2007,” she said.
Returning now to these earlier recordings she will release two songs and two poems which explore different forms of love.
“When I wrote the songs in 2006 I was writing about romantic love but after my daughter’s birth I was flooded with an equally intense, but different feeling of love. So I decided to select a couple of songs from before she was born and two poems from a collection of poems I have been working on about being a mother.
“I have done a lot of voiceover and spoken word recording and I am really passionate about it, so that's why I decided to record the poems.
“I worked with a wonderful sound engineer called Steve McGrath who I had worked with over a 20 year period doing cartoon and documentary voiceover. Kilkenny-based artist Paul Bokslag designed a gorgeous album cover and Kilkenny writer and editor Jeffrey Gormly gave me editorial support.”
Her plan is to record the rest of the songs in the future as well as new ones she has written but in the meantime she makes the offering of this EP.
“It’s nice after all this time to share the work and my hope is that they will be enjoyed. I chose Bandcamp because it's a diverse platform and aims to support artists fairly.”
The EP is available to listen and buy on Bandcamp at susielamb.bandcamp.com
