Mayor raises issue of 'public drug dealing' in Kilkenny City

The Mayor of Kilkenny has raised the ‘ongoing issue of public drug dealing’ in Kilkenny City at a recent meeting of the Joint Policing Committee.
Mayor of Kilkenny, Councillor David Fitzgerald told the meeting that he ‘physically saw a product moved from one person to another via a child’s buggy’.
“I would like reassurance that where there are known locations for drug dealing that there would be gardaí on patrol,” he said.
Chief Superintendent Padraig Dunne said that the policy is to have a uniformed presence to prevent drug dealing.
“If that is not successful then we have a covert presence. We work very hard to put them out of business,” he said.
The meeting heard that year on year there has been a reduction in drugs crime.
