February - Looking back and looking forward in Kilkenny

In Castlecomer, family, friends, colleagues, students remembered the late principal Séamus O’Connor - an extraordinary man with a love for family, education, sport and Castlecomer Community School.
In a story foreshadowing the cost of living crisis that emerged later in the year, we reported some people were facing the difficult decision of ‘to eat or to heat’.
“ESB bills have gone through the roof, people cannot afford to drive cars and heat homes and some people are going to bed hungry,” Cllr Denis Hynes said at a meeting of Kilkenny County Council.
Cllr Eugene McGuinness noted that many local people were now facing the difficult decision of ‘to eat or to heat’.
