March - Celebrating Kilkenny people at home and abroad for St Patrick’s Day

As Kilkenny City and county celebrated St Patrick’s Day, Kilkenny natives were also celebrating overseas.

Having literally spend three months on the high seas, Dr Karen Weekes was met with jubilant fanfare in Barbados as she made sporting history.
Dr Weekes made history when she became the first Irish woman to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean.


She began her journey in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands on December 6 of and she was welcomed into Barbados with crowds gathered to cheer her arrival into port.
Congratulating Karen on the monumental achievement, President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins said Dr Weeks is a “wonderful inspiration to all Irish people.”
