Kilkenny horse breeder saddened by passing of Grand National winner

One For Arthur wins Grand National

The Dwan family received the sad news last week that the Grand National winner, One For Arthur, has died.

Bred by John Dwan, One For Arthur had gone on to a second career from racing to riding horse.

John’s daughter Aisling took part in the Treo Eile Pony Club Demo for the Ward Union pony club at Fairyhouse Racecourse and Moyglare Stud-sponsored Parade of Champions at the Longines Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh.

He then returned to Scotland to Alisa McClung, his owner’s daughter.

It was evident what he meant to all connections when owners Deborah Thomson and Belinda McClung, trainer Lucinda Russell Racing and Peter Scudamore and Jaimie Duff who looked after Arthur when racing, descended on the RDS to support Aisling in the Racehorse to Riding Horse class.

While a sad time, he had a wonderful life in training and post-racing. He has left great memories.
