BREAKING: Tesco confirmed as owners of old mart site in Kilkenny City

Tesco are the owners of the old mart site in Kilkenny, a submission to Kilkenny County Council has confirmed.

The submission was prepared on behalf of Tesco Ireland Limited by RMLA Limited, in response to Kilkenny County Council’s Draft Residential Zoned Land Tax Map.

RMLA Limited, acting on behalf of Tesco, state that their client is not liable for a new tax earmarked for the site under the Draft Residential Zoned Land Tax Map.

The old mart site extends to approximately 8.57ac (3.47 ha) and has the benefit of approximately 530 meters of road frontage onto New Road, Castlecomer Road and Old Mart Road.

The surrounding area is primarily made up of a mixture of residential and commercial development with both the IMC Cinema and MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre located nearby. 

The submission on behalf of Tesco also notes that 'any future residential development of these lands would also be dependent on understanding the appropriate infrastructure which will be determined in the Masterplan which has yet to be prepared'.

"We respectfully request that the local authority take into account the content of this submission and we look forward to receiving confirmation that the lands are removed from the Residential Zoned Land Tax Map," read the statement from RMLA Limited, acting on behalf of Tesco.
