Local gardaí have made a plea to dog owners in Kilkenny to dispose of dog poop bags responsibly.

A member of An Garda Síochána on patrol at the Lacken Boardwalk in the city recently discovered used bags 'on the path, in the undergrowth and even hanging from branches over the river'.

The unsightly nature of the bags on what is meant to be a beautiful natural walkway in Kilkenny city has prompted a response from gardaí on social media.

Whilst acknowledging that most local dog owners are responsible, a reminder has been issued to all owners to dispose of dog waste appropriately.

Owners who do not pick up after their dog could face a fine of €150.
