Traffic issues around car park in Kilkenny raised at council meeting

Cathedral Square Car Park in Kilkenny City

Traffic issues around Cathedral Square Car Park in Kilkenny City were raised at last week's meeting of Kilkenny City Municipal District Council.

The topic was raised as local councillors discussed new parking proposals and issues in the city.

At peak times, there can be traffic 'chaos' in the vicinity of the car park, according to councillor Andrew McGuinness.

Council officials noted the councillor's point, citing that intense demand for the car park can likely be attributed to the fact that the first hour of parking is free.

The car park currently hosts 89 parking spaces, much fewer than some nearby multi-storey car parks in the city centre, and the entrance/exit to the car park is located close to a busy road junction.

Director of Services at Kilkenny County Council, Tim Butler, stated that traffic issues at the car park have been raised to local authority by local gardaí.

The local authority are continuing to examine these issues.
