A motorist who allegedly 'barrelled down' onto High Street in Kilkenny City has had their vehicle seized by gardaí.

In a social media statement, gardaí said that the sight of a glowing orange traffic light was 'too much' for the driver 'as they buried the throttle on their large SUV and barrelled down the Parade onto High Street'.

"Luckily no pedestrians had jumped their light but nonetheless a traffic stop followed," gardaí said.

"The vehicle (non-Irish reg) had no valid certificate of road worthiness, no valid UK insurance (or Irish) and the driver's licence was expired."

The vehicle was subsequently seized, with court to follow.
