The new Mayor of Kilkenny, Cllr Joe Malone, believes that more needs to be done to tackle the 'scourge of drugs' in Kilkenny.

Speaking after being elected last Friday, Malone told those gathered that 'the biggest pandemic in society today is the scourge of drugs in our community'.

"We have to say no. Our gardaí need more backup."

Malone also called for more resources and support to be given to local mental health services to help those who are struggling, particularly young people.
