Permission has been granted for a substantial new housing development between the areas of Wetlands and Kilcreene in the Western Environs of Kilkenny City.

Cairn Homes Properties Ltd had been seeking permission to construct a 210-unit housing development.

130 of these units are planned to be two-storey properties (8 two-beds, 106 three-beds and 16 four-beds), to be delivered as a mixture of semi-detached and terraced houses.

Also planned are 80 duplex apartments (40 two-beds and 40 three-beds) in a series of five duplex apartment buildings of three storeys in height.

A two-storey creche (c. 524.7 sq m) has also been earmarked for the site.

As part of the application, the applicant sought permission for 450 bicycle parking spaces and 429 car parking spaces.

They also sought a connection to the water supply and the provision of a local pumping station to Irish Water specifications.

A decision was due to be made on the development earlier this year, but that was delayed due to further information being requested by the local authority.

The application was subsequently granted, subject to thirty-one conditions, on June 27, 2023.
