Newly elected Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr. Michael Doyle, will host a Regional Ceremony for National Commemoration Day on Sunday, 9th July.
The event will take place at 11am in the grounds of Kilkenny Castle, where attendees will pay tribute to the brave Irishmen and Irishwomen who lost their lives in past wars or while serving with the United Nations.
Distinguished guests including military personnel, regional Public Representatives, Members of the Defence Forces, An Garda Síochána and Religious Leaders have been invited to attend with members of the public also welcome.
The ceremony will begin with a formal introduction by the Master of Ceremonies, who will introduce the Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council and other dignitaries. Officiating clergy will then lead us in prayers, followed by the Cathaoirleach laying a wreath in tribute to the fallen Irishmen and Irishwomen who valiantly served their country in times of war or peacekeeping missions under the United Nations.
Kilkenny is one of several counties across the country marking the occasion.
Annually, the ceremony takes place on the Sunday nearest July 11th, the anniversary of the date in 1921 where a Truce was signed marking the end of the Irish War of Independence.
Those attending are asked to be at the venue by 11am as formal proceedings commence at 11:15am.
