A swimming prohibition has been implemented at the Meadows in the Linear Park on the River Nore in Kilkenny City.
Kilkenny County Council reported the presence of elevated levels of bacteria in the water at this popular location on Friday evening.
The swimming ban will remain in effect until a sequence of clear tests indicates the water is safe for recreational activities.
However, the testing process cannot commence until the water levels recede to a manageable level.
Further updates will be issued on Kilkenny County Council social media outlets and information will be posted at the swimming area.
