Public transport received a boost in Kilkenny City over the weekend as Kilkenny County Council unveiled a brand new bus shelter at the MacDonagh Station bus stop.
The MacDonagh Station stop is designed to cater to the needs of the local community, including wheelchair users and those visually impaired.
The new six-meter double shelter outside MacDonagh Junction is the latest in a number bus shelters to be developed across the city, shelters substantially completed in: Larchfield, Laurel Drive, O'Loughlin Road and Leggettsrath in recent months.
Works are also currently in progress at Cillin Hill, Upper Patrick Street and Dominic Street, while the Kilkenny Local Authority is committed to further expanding its network of bus shelters, with works set to commence soon at St Luke's General Hospital soon.
Cllr John Coonan, Vice Chairman of the Kilkenny Access Group and the Kilkenny Age Friendly Older Peoples Council, welcomed the news, commenting: "Today marks a significant leap forward in our ongoing efforts to enhance public transportation accessibility and convenience for all residents of Kilkenny City. These new shelters not only provide much-needed protection from the elements but also embody our core values of inclusivity and community."
