On Wednesday March 20 at 7.30pm a service for those whose lives have been touched by cancer will take place in St Fiacre's Church, Loughboy.
The event takes place two days prior to Daffodil Day when friends and family come together in support of one another and united against cancer.
The service will be led by Fr Willie Purcell and the Kilkenny Gospel Choir. The first class relic of St Peregrine will be brought to the Service from the shrine in Italy. St Peregrine is the patron saint of those whose lives have been touched by cancer.
"This is a great blessing for all whose lives have been touched by cancer," Clara Parish Priest, Fr Willie Purcell said.
"There is international devotion to St Peregrine and many miracles have taken place through his intercession, the oil of St Peregrine will be given out on the night and there will be an opportunity for each person to be blessed by the relic of St Peregrine," the local priest added.
The service will celebrate its 24th anniversary this year but this is the first time the relic of St Peregrine in Kilkenny will be present.
"We are inviting all to come along to the service whether you have cancer, have a relative or friend who has cancer, a survivor of cancer or have lost someone to cancer, we all need healing and so it is good to be blessed with the relic of St Peregrine who takes our prayers to the Lord who heals all," commented Fr Purcell.
A large congregation is expected on the night so all are encouraged to come early. Special prayers of healing will also be prayed during the service.
